In the winter and spring 2026, as the immigrant community was hiding in fear, two immigrant friends started talking about art and creating with yarn. The outcome was the start of Community Threads/Hilos de comunidad, an inter generational group with people from different countries coming together to beautify our city of Northfield. With crochet projects, the group is allowing people to become fast friends, lower the anxiety and work on the collective well-being, and create a sense of connection and belonging that has surprised all of us! In keeping with the openness of the group, we seek to invite other community members across cultures and ethnicities. The first big community project was Friendship Trees/Árboles de la amistad in Bridge Square, Northfield, in the 2026 summer. With 16 trees we surprised everybody with the beauty and creativity. We have many more projects! Stay Tuned!
